The view of the bustling Market Street from Sandrino’s new balcony is spectacular. And as the restaurant is spreading the reach of their wings further and further over Fremantle’s cappuccino strip – they intend to stay true to their original vision.
While other restaurants have come and gone, Sandrino’s continues to conquer the famous cappuccino strip. Just recently, they took over the restaurant formerly known as ‘Echo’, carved a hole in the wall and voila! – Sandrino’s more than doubled in size, going from a modest seating capacity of 140 to an impressive 300.
The expansion marks a new era for Sandrino’s, and a whole new world of entertainment possibilities for Freo locals. “Not only do we still provide everything that you have come to love about Sandrino’s – wood fired pizzas, fresh and local seafood and handmade pastas – but we are now also able to cater for large parties, functions, wedding receptions and all kinds of social occasions” says Jelena with excitement and love for her Mediterranean inspired restaurant that she owns together with husband Sam, now for over a decade.
And there’s something very Freo about the two becoming one. The atmosphere is a mix of trendy and traditional; sleek but rustic, old and new, all at the same time. A wall covered in aged photographs at the turn of last century showcases Fremantle’s strong migrant and shipping history. All in all, it perfectly captures where Sandrino’s at – rooted in tradition but still moving forward; improving without changing. In a nutshell – staying true.
And why change what’s working. “Our motto’s fast service – fantastic food” Jelena continues, and customers seem to agree that Sandrino’s the place to be – and now even more so.
