WATERFRONT shopping will open an extra evening next month under a new plan by Fremantle Ports to open Victoria Quay to the public.
Night markets will be held Thursday nights for a six-week trial over March and April, on the lawn and carpark areas between the B and E-Sheds. If successful they may become a permanent fixture.
The markets will feature a vast array of international street food, licensed areas, and outside-the-box entertainment like drumming circles and a free silent disco.
Fremantle Ports’ media ruck Jeanette Murray confirms the markets are happening as part of FP’s wider revitalisation project across the quay’s three precincts.
“We think it will add to the liveliness of Victoria Quay,” she says. “It should bring more people down to [the area] and get them involved”.
