Vive la Bellevue

BELLEVUE is French for “beautiful view” and how fitting that is for Fremantle’s street of the same name.

The streetscape is certainly a charming view, with a very English feel thanks to the rustic cottages the old working port city is famous for.

Neat, well-kept garden beds full of herbs and flowers line the steps from the street to the front door of 53 Bellevue, and the flower boxes under each window sill make this federation home ooze sentiment and character.

I was struck by how lived in and homely this place feels. The decorative ceiling roses and ornate features on the archways of the entrance hall take your breath away.

The bedrooms and living rooms are light and airy, with white walls further enhancing the freshness.

The kitchen, with multitudes of cupboard space all painted white, laminate bench tops matching the granite table top (which comes with the house), new appliances and floorboards, gives the modern edge needed for an older house to be livable and functional.

This three-bedroom, one-bathroom home, complete with original features such as fireplaces, high skirting boards, beautiful polished wooden floors, spacious cellar, a new outdoor living and entertaining area and fully refurbished kitchen is modern and livable whilst still retaining the old-world feel of the house.

During summer and winter, the secluded and very private garden and decking is the perfect place for entertaining and it is where owners George and Donna spend most of their time. It’s guaranteed to have a calming effect, as there’s a babbling water feature and pond on your way there from the back porch.

With luscious bamboos, ferns, vines and trees surrounding the block, there’s privacy and shade. With a BBQ and plenty of storage space under the stairs, this outdoor area was built to entertain.
