Pub comment extension

RESIDENTS have won more time to comment on a tavern for Beeliar.

The proposed 659 sqm “bar and brasserie” includes a 200sqm bottle shop and 185 parking bays, to be situated on land between Yangebup Road and Beeliar Drive, across from Beeliar Village.

Cockburn council initially gave locals two weeks to comment online but has extended it another week following a request from Cr Philip Eva.

Yangebup Progress Association president Chontelle Sands says the group is talking to locals and will prepare a submission.

“We want to make sure that people feel like they’ve been heard,” she says.

“The whole tavern proposal has dipped under the radar and we want to know what the community thinks.

“If all goes well, we are hoping to hold a community forum on the proposal.”

The proposal could come before the council for a vote as early as December 10.

The tavern application is the first major issue the YPA has been involved in since its June resurrection, in response to local kids throwing rocks at cars. “The area had really started to go downhill, so we held a community forum to galvanise people and let them have their say,” Ms Sands says. “We already have 30 members from various backgrounds.”
