THE architect of Fremantle council’s small houses policy and much of its CBD scheme revamp has been appointed its new CEO, replacing Graeme Mackenzie.
Formerly the port city’s planning director, Phil St John left Fremantle two years ago to be Wanneroo’s planning chief.
The Herald understands Paul Trotman, who’d replaced Mr St John when he left for Wanneroo, was also a frontrunner amongst the more than 100 applicants for the CEO job. Mayor Brad Pettitt says Mr St John’s innovative thinking will be called on when he’s asked to implement the city’s upcoming strategic plan.
A critic of the Barnett government’s development assessment panels, Mr St John (pronounced “sinjin”) says he feels like he’s coming home.
“I’m also looking forward to working with officers and elected members in leading the revitalisation of Fremantle, while retaining the characteristics which make it such a great place to live, work and visit.”
