After returning from four years living and training in Japan, Katie Noad and Noriko Shimada established Keishinkan Japanese Martial Arts Club in 1989 at the Hilton PCYC. They soon outgrew the small room they were using and found an old scout hall in Mosman Park where they set their dojo up on a permanent basis. After over 21 years in Mosman Park, the scouts wanted their hall back so Keishinkan dojo has now relocated to Hamilton Hill.
The focus of martial arts is to learn through the body. Using physical practice we discover how to improve our posture, co-ordinate and control our movements and become more aware of ourselves and others. Keishinkan has classes in Aikido – a modern Japanese martial art and Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-ryu – a classical martial art which involves the use of a sword. Both Katie and Noriko are very experienced practitioners. Katie has been practising Aikido since 1980 and Katori since 1986 and
Noriko has been practising Aikido since 1986 and Katori since 1990.
Classes are for women and men of all ages. Juniors can start at 12 years old and train with the adults.
