WAAPA’s acclaimed percussion ensemble Defying Gravity present an enchanting night of music inspired by the sounds of India and the Middle East, set under the stars at Fremantle Arts Centre.
Featuring guest musicians from Iran and India, this intimate evening opens with a selection of original Persian love songs performed on traditional instruments.

The night will culminate in the magical new work Karma, by emerging Indian composer Tao Issaro. Written specifically to be performed in the space, the piece draws on the musical influences of Issaro’s homeland.
Beginning mysteriously with the God Krishna bringing the universe into being, the piece explores the four elements – earth, water, wind and fire – before ending with a thrilling tumult of captivating rhythm and movement.
