The Ocean on Your Wall
Glen Cowans travels to another world to capture his art, a world that is right on our doorstep and yet invisible to many of us. It is the world under the sea. With an unbridled passion for the oceans, Glen has for the last 21 years explored and photographed the beautiful seascapes and life-forms that exist both up and down our WA coast and all around the world.
These all come together in a stunning display that at times can literally take your breath away at Glen’s beautiful gallery/studio space inside one of the old pilot’s cottages next to the Roundhouse in Fremantle.

GLEN COWANS’ STUDIO Glen Cowans One Fish
Limited Edition Photograph on Canvas 800mm x 800mm $890
With a history of over 36 exhibitions and the creation of a large-format coffee table book, Cowans’ work bridges the gap between photography and art. His philosophy is to allow nature to be the artist and let the seascapes, colours and life forms of the ocean create masterpieces that offer viewers a rare experience, a glimpse of natural beauty far greater than many imagine.
Cowans’ works have become highly sought after additions to collections within Australia and internationally. They can be purchased by visiting his gallery space as well as via an on-line shop.

Turbo Energy
The paintings of Indigenous artist Turbo Brown are on display at Japingka during March. Turbo paints with directness, energy and focus – his subject is the outdoor world of birds and animals. He explains that this relates to a time when he was homeless, on the banks of the Murray River, at a time the animals were his singular friends.

JAPINGKA GALLERY Turbo Brown Red Tail Cockatoos Acrylic on Linen 139cm x 80cm $2995
Turbo’s childhood was a great struggle, but he was finally adopted by a family and life slowly began to improve. He moved to Melbourne and discovered a talent for painting. His capacity to visualise stories that he held in his memory gave him a vast store of subject ideas.
In gallery2 Ochre Painters of the Kimberley shows some of the famous names from this region of WA, including Rover Thomas, Queenie McKenzie and Jack Britten. Artworks are available to view online and Japingka is open daily.

The Frequency of Delight
“The Frequency of Delight series began with a whisper of inspiration saying paint, paint with flowing colours, paint softly, paint for sheer delight, paint so that people can stop and investigate,” says Peter Blunt. “But the real beginning was to say yes, yes to being open to the abundance of the imagination, inspiration and delight all around and within. With this support and inspiration the paintings flowed onto the canvas. The images formed space and the flow of energy from each colour harmonised while maintaining its own impact within the image.”

New artists join Studio Eleven
Branching out with their artistic adventures, four new artists have recently joined Studio Eleven, one of David Giles’ three art galleries.
The four women describe themselves as intuitive abstract artists. Jane Marie, Sherryn Lloyd, Maureen Bradshaw and Alli Sylvestre say they are inspired by feelings evoked by nature. They explore the raw beauty of landscapes and seascapes using texture, colour, movement and a variety of mediums.

Sharing a passion to paint and a sense of play, their artwork tends to flow in each others presence. They say their creative expression continues to thrive in the magic space of Studio Eleven.
The opening of ‘Branching Out’ is 3-6pm Sunday 20 March and celebrates these four women joining Studio Eleven. Normal gallery hours 11-4 Thursday-Sunday.
