Bugger all in Budget for Freo

THERE’S little to celebrate in the southern suburbs from this year’s WA Budget, with premier Colin Barnett having little in the bank with which to woo voters.

Fremantle score $30 million for the already-promised amalgamation of South Fremantle and Hamilton senior high schools into Fremantle College, Melville south and Bicton north get $22.6m for underground power, Cockburn gets $8.1m to finish off the police station, but there’s slim pickings after that. Most money for the area is aimed at the now-frustrated sale of Fremantle Port.

“Can’t see much (ie, anything) for Fremantle in the state budget,” Fremantle Labor MP Simone McGurk texted the Herald from parliament, confirming the paper’s own search.

“No state government investment in Perth’s languishing second city,” she said.

  1. Just a $1.5 Billion in much needed road infrastructure, that will remove much transit traffic off Fremantle roads, will free the bottle neck of trucks coming out of the port.
Naturally the labor party is against that as roads cause more congestion, strangely new roads in labor land of Cockburn and Armadale there roads and bridges help congestion.
At least the hypocrisy is consistent.
