THE WA Portuguese Club has its eyes on the St John’s Ambulance depot in Parry Street, Fremantle.

The club has put its 8000sqm Beaconsfield headquarters and soccer field on the market and wants to buy the depot to rebuild a sport and recreation centre.

Fremantle council’s finance and policy committee has given the nod to a MOU being signed with the club for the redevelopment of the site, which would lock the club into opening the facilities to the entire community.

St John’s lease on the site expires next month, after which it will go onto a month-to-month lease while looking for new premises. The ambos had been hoping to relocate to Fremantle Hospital, but decided the offer from the DoH wouldn’t cut it, so they’re now looking elsewhere.
