WATER CORP is full steam ahead with its $196 million expansion of the Woodman Point wastewater treatment plant.
Chook reader Olwyn Maddock asked us to find out why the Coogee site was crawling with security guards and builders recently after their appearance piqued her curiosity.
The plant currently serves about 680,000 people, but after the expansion Water Corp expects it will be able to cope with 900,000. Works are due to come online by 2019.
In May the first major concrete pour took place, with 360 cubic metres of concrete smoothed into a 50-metre diameter to provide the base for a tank that will ultimately be able to hold 11 million litres of wee and other stuff.
The corp’s general manager asset delivery Mark Leathersich said it took 60 trucks eight hours to complete the pour.
