Success runs in the family

A FREMANTLE family of four, whose passion for sport has taken them around the world, recently achieved the amazing feat of all placing in the top 10 at an international athletic meet.

The Davison-Rodrigue family travelled to compete in the Multisport World Championships in Pontevedra Spain recently, competing in a range of events such as the cross triathlon which involved a 1km swim, 30km bike trail and 7km run.

Fifteen-year-old daughter Zoe had the most success, earning silver in the junior women’s cross triathlon championship – finishing one minute behind the champion.

Mother Melanie Rodrigue, who was 10th in the women’s 45-59 cross triathlon, was stoked with everyone’s results saying the hard work had paid off.

• The Davison-Rodrigue family: all in the top 10 in the world.

“I hope we can have another go at this … it definitely keeps the family together – we’re all part of something and it’s nice to be able to share that,” she said.

Fitness training occurs anywhere between seven to 20 times a day, Ms Rodrigue said: “We each go at our own pace.”

“Often the conversation at the dinner table is: ‘How did your training go? Did you feel good today? Maybe I ate too much for lunch?’”

She says beyond the obvious fitness benefits the sport has allowed Zoe and her brother Alec to grow and become role models for other children.

“They weren’t always necessarily athletes … they started from the bottom and worked their way up.” Ms Rodrigue said.

“Activity is good for everyone, it doesn’t matter what they do, so long as they’re active.

“Energy created by that – it’s contagious!”

Her hubby Christopher Davison placed 7th in the men’s 45-49 cross triathlon while Alec was 10th in the junior men’s aquathlon and 13th in the junior men’s duathlon.
