FREMANTLE Ports and the WA Museum are calling for expressions of interest to redevelop the heritage-listed A shed on Victoria Quay.
Currently leased to the museum, the 2,255 sqm shed has been used for storage for a number of years.
With the Fremantle Waterfront Masterplan back on the agenda, the port is keen to see Victoria Quay reactivated as a tourist and leisure-oriented site.
Permanent or short-stay accommodation won’t be allowed, and any plans would need to be approved by the WA Planning Commission and the Heritage Council.
Fremantle Society president John Dowson welcomed a sympathetic reuse of the 1920s building, “especially if its relevant to its maritime history.”
But thought the expressions of interest was a bit of a “fishing expedition to see who might come along and spend millions of dollars fixing it up.”
Closing date for EOI is November 29.
