Montreal Local’s famous Brekkie Pizza.
Montreal Local, tucked away beneath the Montreal Commons apartments on Knutsfort Street, is quickly becoming Fremantle’s hidden gem. As a local who’s always on the hunt for Freo’s next foodie hotspot, I had the pleasure of experiencing this cozy wine bar, and it’s safe to say, it left a lasting impression.
Montreal Local isn’t just about the food. The ambiance is inviting and the location is exemplary, a perfect reflection of Fremantle’s community spirit. The carefully selected wines and the friendly, knowledgeable staff enhance the dining experience, making every visit feel special.
As far as the food goes, I’m told the Breakfast Pizza is already a hit among locals, and it’s easy to see why. The crispy bacon adds a satisfying crunch, while the eggs provide a creamy texture. The caramelised onion introduces a sweet twist, perfectly complementing the hearty sausage. Topped with a drizzle of hollandaise sauce, it’s a breakfast dream come true.

I also had the pleasure of trying the creamy Burrata. This dish is a testament to Montreal Local’s commitment to quality. The Burrata is served with an earthy butternut squash and shallot puree, adding a depth of flavour that is simply divine. The chunky pesto offers a robust, herby kick, while the tomato confit brings a burst of sweetness. It’s a harmonious blend of flavours that dances on the palate.
For those with a heartier appetite, the selection of pizzas is a must-try. The Gamberi pizza, with its garlic prawns, chorizo sausage, mozzarella, and salsa verde, is a seafood lover’s delight. Each bite is a symphony of flavours, from the spicy sausage to the fresh, succulent prawns. The Wild Mushroom pizza is a vegetarian’s paradise, featuring mozzarella, Fior di Latte, truffle oil, and rocket. The truffle oil imparts a rich, aromatic essence that elevates the dish to gourmet status.
Montreal Local is more than just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of Fremantle’s vibrant culinary scene. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this charming spot is well worth a visit. Indulge in the exquisite flavours and enjoy a uniquely Fremantle experience.
