FREMANTLE photographer Brett Leigh Dicks has won the $3000 photography section of the 2024 Kalgoorlie-Boulder Art Prize for his image Photograph at the Corner of Hannan and Maritana Street, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia 1918/2024.

It captures the projection of a historic black and white photo by TF MacKay from 1918 onto a vintage slide screen positioned to juxtapose it against the modern city corner. Leigh Dix took the photograph while artist in residence at the Museum of the Goldfield, where an exhibition of the complete series will be on display from November 30.

His photograph will now be part of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s permanent collection.
