CHONTELLE STONE is deputy mayor of the City of Cockburn. She’s thrilled the council is about to start consultation on the possible return of fireworks to local events.
THERE’S something about the magic of fireworks.
The way they light up the night sky, bring people together, and mark special moments in our lives.
After a long and considered process, I’m absolutely delighted to welcome the return of fireworks to the City of Cockburn.
At the Council meeting this week, we endorsed a new policy that paves the way for community events to once again include fireworks, under carefully managed conditions.

This has been a long time coming, and it’s the result of diligent work by City officers, extensive consultation, and a commitment to balancing community celebration with environmental responsibility.
A special thank you must go to the Hammond Park Football Club.
Their patience and advocacy have not gone unnoticed.
I’m thrilled that they’ll now be able to include fireworks at their juniors event – something they’ve long hoped for and which will no doubt create lasting memories for the young players and their families.
More broadly, this decision opens the door for the return of fireworks to major community celebrations such as the Spring Fair and Coogee Live.
These events are the heart of our local calendar, drawing people of all ages together in joy and connection.
With appropriate safeguards now in place, we can celebrate with the vibrancy and energy that fireworks brings without compromising on safety or environmental care.
This is more than just a policy change.
It’s a symbol of our city’s willingness to listen, adapt, and support community spirit.
Here’s to the nights ahead where we can once again look up and be dazzled together.
