Royal George plans revealed

THE developer of the old Royal George Hotel in East Fremantle is ready to release plans to restore the heritage building and build apartments behind.

Luke Saraceni’s Saracen Properties say they’ll be fully restoring the old hotel, which has been decaying since being snatched from East Fremantle council by the National Trust almost a decade ago.

Saracen says the proposed development will include a licensed premises, restaurant and boutique function rooms.

Reisdential apartments to the rear would be “high-quality” while the public realm around the hotel would also get a spruce-up.

Saracen appointed prominent architect Michael Patroni to head the project, with his previous heritage work including Bread in Common and The Petition Kitchen at the State Buildings.

Saracen will reveal the plans at open days on April 13 and 14. There’ll be tours, but with limited numbers so register on their Facebook page The Royal George Community Days. More info at http://www.theroyalgeorge.com.au
