BEACH soccer is back in Fremantle after a successful debut last summer.
On the weekend of January 11-12, Football West will hold a Brazilian-style soccer tournament at Bathers Beach in the city’s West End.
There will be five categories: womens, mens, mixed, junior boys and junior girls (13-16).
“Football West ran its first Beach Football event at Bathers Beach in January this year and it went even better than we anticipated,” says FW head of members services Alex Novatsis.
“Since then we have held Beach Football tournaments in the regions and they have also been very well supported.”
Mr Novastsis said because of the high demand they will be running another metro tournament north of the river at Scarborough Beach (February 1-2).
Brazil has one of the best soccer teams in the world and many of its player honed their skills playing “The Beautiful Game” on the sand when they were kids.
Beach soccer is also popular with retired pros who play in masters tournaments around the world.
